Money cau$e$ problem$ in the NHL

The Powerball jackpot last night brought to mind Rush's "The Big Money" on 1985's "Power Windows." Winning tickets for the $579 million Powerball jackpot were bought in Arizona and Missouri.

Dear NHL owners and players, I tried the lockout approach for 6 days and my client in Calgary couriered a voiceover check overnight! Invoices had piled up since May...now your turn to fix your lockout me$$...I would have really enjoyed the game below...

It's okay though NHL...I'll be taking in a great junior hockey game next Wednesday! The WHL actually cares about it's fans...

Black Friday = Black Cars?

Black Friday reminds me I have a black 2002 Saturn SC1 - preceded in 1986 by a black Nissan Pulsar NX. Anyway, enjoy 1985's "Black Cars":

Little black pucks will be around for your enjoyment tonight at Rutland Arena as the Kelowna Chiefs host the Sicamous Eagles at 7 pm. Great memories from the playoffs last year as we beat them in round three!

Nice PR (and PA) if I do say (NOT sing) so myself

Saturday night the Kelowna Chiefs host Creston before a 2-week break on home ice. Let there be hockey! Maybe even one day again in the NHL...

Buffalo Sports Voices: RJ is number one!

The Buffalo Bills get the national spotlight tonight as the Miami Dolphins visit on Thursday Night Football. Maybe a change in TV announcers will improve the Bills' chances of winning?

The CBS crew of Ian Eagle and Dan Fouts were in the booth the last two Sundays BUT tonight it's Brad Nessler and Mike Mayock.

These broadcast teams finished behind Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth of NBC's Sunday Night Football in Sports Illustrated's list of Best NFL announcing teams. The Worst? Dick Stockton and John Lynch of Fox.

Buffalo broadcasting legend Rick Jeanneret is a Hockey Hall of Famer now! He is this year’s recipient of the Foster Hewitt Award for excellence in broadcasting. Read all about it here.

Congratulations to the four new players inducted in to the Hall of Fame!

Trick or Treat or ReTweet? Hass & Hess!

Hope your Halloween lived up to expectations!

Hot off the press comes this news from Twitter!

Thanks for the RT today Warren Sapp! He could be a Hall of Famer sooner than later:)

My costume here was put on to celebrate the launch of Harem Scarem's single "No Justice" nineteen years ago. Their lead singer with the longer hair in the photos below is Harry Hess. He is still in the music business today and has a pretty good track record!

Justice IS served below...

Hockey Work & Leadership Training

It was my pleasure to provide some voice imaging "bumpers" this week for the Buffalo Sabres and an MSG-TV special airing this Monday night beginning at 7 pm: “Buffalo Sabres: French Connection Statue Unveiling.” Who can forget these three?

Three games for the Kelowna Chiefs in the next week - beginning tonight. I look forward to being your public address announcer.

The Chiefs CAN win all three of these games! They will need to be disciplined and stay out of the penalty box while being productive with the puck.

I learned about improving my leadership skills the last two days at the Global Leadership Summit.
This was from Jim Colllins' session.

Club Penguin: Sticking to values. The NHL should try that!

From the TSN websiteThe NHL's collective bargaining talks have restarted quietly. An unannounced meeting of the primary negotiators took place at union headquarters in Toronto on Friday, with commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly sitting down with NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr and special counsel Steve Fehr.

Please value your fans NHL! Resolve the lockout before I boycott your "game"...Time to give Bettman the boot!

Keep it real. That's how I Roll. It's a good Rule:) Be authentic.
~ Ralph Hass

Finally, a friendly reminder to support your local junior hockey teams!

When I'm 64: McCartney, Bobby Orr & more

Happy Birthday today to the Vancouver Canucks' Sedin twins, Henrik and Daniel, who are a combined 64 years old. Don't know what their birthday plans are tonight but last year Henrik took in a Keith Urban concert.

For the first time since 1964 (the year I was born!) with the Beatles, Paul McCartney is playing Vancouver this fall: November 25th at BC Place. Enjoy a little animation accompaniment here for the Beatles' "When I'm 64":

If you take in a BC Lions football game at BC Place, the centre who solidifies the offensive line is Angus Reid - number 64. His website is: www.AngusReid64.com. He is a great interview and a good writer as well, meaning he'll be a future broadcaster!

The amazing Bobby Orr doesn't do many interviews but you can go to the URL below for one.

Erin Andrews emailed me! viaSport brand is launched!

NOT the well known American sportscaster, who joined Fox Sports in early July and will be anchoring the prime time college football show tomorrow - BUT the media contact for viaSport here in British Columbia. The press release is below.

As we get set for the 64th Primetime Emmys on Sunday night, interesting stat involving the US Erin Andrews. Her dad was a six-time Emmy Award-winner. Part of the drama this year involves "Mad Men", who could set a record with a fifth straight win for best drama series.

VIASPORT CHANGES THE GAME FOR SPORT IN BRITISH COLUMBIA
Provincial sport agency unveils new brand

Vancouver, B.C. (September 20, 2012): The not-for-profit organization responsible for amateur sport in British Columbia unveiled its new brand, viaSport, as a legacy of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Formerly the BC Sport Agency, viaSport provides strategic leadership to B.C.’s sport sector to increase sport participation and improve sport delivery across the province.

“Our new name, viaSport, reflects our philosophy that sport is a powerful agent of positive change, for our families, our communities and our province,” explained Scott Ackles, chief executive officer, viaSport. “ViaSport reminds us that through sport, we learn, grow, gain confidence, and build life skills. Through sport, we become better.”

The BC Sport Agency was established in November 2011 to expand on the sport and healthy living work of 2010 Legacies Now, which leveraged the 2010 Winter Games to create sport and healthy living legacies in B.C. communities. The organization was formed with strategic guidance and input from the sport sector to create a unified voice for sport in B.C. ViaSport aims to form strategic partnerships, improve financial sustainability, and increase the efficiency of sport delivery in B.C.

“Sport has been a big part of my life since I was a kid,” said Bill Bennett, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development. “It's really helped shape who I am today, and I know that's the case for many, many other British Columbians as well. Our government’s financial support of viaSport is an example of our commitment to ensuring sport is accessible and affordable for BC families."

Moray Keith, viaSport chair, is confident that the organization will change lives. “We believe in the transformative power of sport, and the viaSport brand conveys our commitment to using sport as a force for positive change to unite and energize communities throughout B.C.”

The viaSport logo features overlapping coloured circles, which represent how B.C.’s spectrum of sports work together to create a continuum of activity for people of all ages and abilities. The logo also features a play button, which conveys a call to action inviting everyone to participate in sport and physical activity.

ViaSport was established with support from the Province of British Columbia, through the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development. Visit www.viasport.ca for more information.

Shouldn't sports make us smile?

Someone tell Sports Illustrated...
They have missed the mark on their last three covers:(

Another NHL lockout!? The fourth work stoppage in two decades to be precise. I am not impressed...

“Life is like a penalty box of hockey. You never know what you’re going to get.” ~ Gary “Gump” Bettman quote?

Hey! Maybe baseball can go to a 220 game schedule and the NFL to 22?
