Vanek Attack! Bosh rocks the rim!

Scripts are not written any better than this one tonight...Sabres losing
3-1 with 2:21 left in the game. Thomas Vanek scores to pull us within one. Then 36 seconds later, he ties it up! In overtime, Vanek scores AGAIN (a natural hat trick!) on home ice to WIN it 4-3! Buffalo is now in a three-way tie with Boston and Philadelphia for seventh in the Eastern Conference.

Fifteen months ago Steve MacNaull wrote a really nice newspaper article about my voiceover business. He did a follow-up today in the daily newspaper's Business section paying special attention to the Beverly Hills real estate project I mentioned a week ago. I will post a link very soon to Steve's article.

Here is a TV commercial featuring the Sabres' Paul Gaustad reading a newspaper - and doing a fine job encouraging viewers to do their part in
saving the environment. I do the announcer lines towards the end.
Here is another one in the series - again rated PG...for Paul Gaustad.

Let's go from posh Beverly Hills to Bosh in Toronto. Chris Bosh had 40 points tonight as the Raptors rolled past "Superman" Dwight Howard and his 37 points for Orlando. The final: Raptors 127, Magic 110.
Chris Bosh gives back to his community. Here is the link for the Chris Bosh Foundation - a non-profit organization promoting social enrichment, education and physical fitness among youth.

Chris Bosh and Will Ferrell rock!

"CB4" was a 1993 comedy film (don't let the kids see it!) about a fictional rap group named CB4, named after the prison block in which the group was allegedly formed (Cell Block 4). Chris Rock was the main star. The movie featured a short segment with celebrities Halle Berry, Ice-T, Ice Cube and Shaquille O'Neal. We touched on his movie career in an earlier blog this month. Did you know Shaq had 14 straight All-Star selections before he was left off the team this year?

But CB4 (aka Chris Bosh) of the Toronto Raptors picked up the slack for Shaq as he helped the East beat the West yesterday in the NBA All-Star Game, 134-128. If you are keeping score, Bosh had 14 points AND there were 3 more CB's at the game: former Raptor Chauncey Billups, Washington's Caron Butler (part of the trade that saw Shaq go from LA to Miami) and over on the West: Carlos Boozer. Besides CB players, there are CB teams in the NBA: the Charlotte Bobcats and Chicago Bulls.
In the NHL, there are the Chicago Blackhawks and Columbus Blue Jackets. But the NFL wins this "sporting" competition with 3 CB teams. Yes, there is another Chicago team - the Bears. And, following in the footsteps of Columbus, two more Ohio teams:
the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals.

Moon madness! The full moon takes place in three nights. Two nights ago, Chris Bosh had a teammate named Jamario Moon leave his mark at the Slam Dunk competition. This link will show you how he did along with "Superman" Dwight Howard.

Jackie Moon (aka Will Ferrell) did this hilarious basketball beer commercial for the Super Bowl. He has another sports spoof movie set for release February 29. "Semi-Pro" is the title. It is NOT set in Chicago or Ohio - but Flint, Michigan.
Where there is a Will (Ferrell), there is a barrel of laughs.

Reaching new heights!

  1. Dubai opened the world's tallest skyscraper today. It was also renamed Burj Khalifa, to honor the Abu Dhabi leader who is the president of the United Arab Emirates. The building rises 2, 717 feet (828 meters) from the desert. The $1.5 billion dollar "vertical city" of luxury apartments and offices and a hotel designed by Giorgio Armani also plans to have the world's highest mosque (158th floor) and swimming pool (76th floor). No belly flops allowed!
  2. Yesterday, 6 foot 10 inch Chris Bosh became the Toronto Raptors' all-time franchise scoring leader. Bosh finished Toronto's 91-86 win over San Antonio with 22 points, giving him 9, 428 points, eight more than Vince Carter.
  3. Today I finished an 8-page elearning narration for a school district in Ontario covering Basic Ladder training!

Inauguration Excitement!

My voiceover for tomorrow night's game in Tampa Bay will include inauguration footage! I will publish the script tomorrow but I need to be a Sabre secret agent man until it runs on MSG-TV. Did you know when you take the initials of the leaders of our countries:
Barack
Obama
Stephen
Harper
BOSH is spelled out. Yay for Raptor Chris Bosh! I wrote about him quite a bit early last year. We are all hoping President Obama gets through all the "hoops" ahead of him over the next four years. Yes We Can is the name of this video from NBA-TV.

My last blog post was on the day I went to a Kelowna Rockets game. They lost 5-2 to Moose Jaw and Kelowna's best player was a kid who had just turned sixteen. Shane McColgan of Manhattan Beach, California will be a skill player fans here will enjoy watching for several more years. Tomorrow night I'll be at another Rockets game as the mighty Vancouver Giants come to town. Their professional counterparts, the Canucks, are really struggling. They have lost six in a row on home ice. Former Sabre, Steve Bernier, has 11 goals so far for the Canucks. He goes against another one of his former teams, the San Jose Sharks, tonight. Bernier's nickname is Big Bear and I will leave you with some hockey footage with skating bears...

Friday Facebook FUN! Featuring LeBron

Should I or shouldn't I set up a Facebook Fan Page for my voiceover business? My answer is NO as I feel "there is a lot of  'push comes to shove' or 'gush comes to love' as people in any industry market themselves (ie. LeBron James)."

I shared that thought moments ago on Peter O'Connell's voxmarketising blog. You can read the rest of my thoughts and Peter's heartfelt post here:
taking drastic action

Well, we did this two weeks ago and here we go again with Friday Facebook FUN! Featuring LeBron.

My status this morning: The 2010 Winter Olympic Games cost our province $925 million dollars to stage and host...ironically, this is the same amount as LeBron James' contract in Miami$$
I am looking forward to the day NBA hoops returns to the Pacific Northwest...in Vancouver and Seattle, who still own the Supersonics name...I hear LeBron might buy both cities:)

My status last night: I am wearing MY Heat jersey to men's basketball tonight - and will be scoring more points than LeBron:)

My status yesterday morning: LBJ Watch 2010: LeBron James Jumps Ship to Miami! All over the news & sports...Reality TV show to follow...

Wednesday afternoon status: Hope LeBron announces plans to play pro in Spain tomorrow...enough hype already...BUT it looks like it will be the Knicks or Nets...

Wednesday afternoon link: We do things a little differently in Canada.
I guess that's why Chris Bosh left for Miami...

Tuesday morning status: LeBron is on Twitter now...First tweet: "Hello World, the Real King James is in the Building."...His free agent decision will be delayed for 6 weeks as he masters Twitter...

Tuesday morning link: My high school classmate, Shawn Bird, is a real writer, teacher and a blogger. Shawn also has a birthday today! I invite you to read her latest post, Today I’m 21.

Monday afternoon status: Studio is silent as outside my window I am happy to see and hear the HedgeMasters dealing with 40 hedges in a "violent" manner:)

Monday afternoon link: Maple Leafs' GM Brian Burke keeps his promises - especially to his children.

Life is not all fun and games. Brian Burke learned that this past February. LeBron James learned that last night with "The Decision."
